The Value of Clean

Date: 01-10-2017

How important is cleanliness to you?

Let me ask the question in another way. Will you go back to a restaurant where there are food particles left on the table or the restroom is littered with toilet paper?

No.

If there is one thing everyone should know, it would be this:

“The very first thing that people notice is how clean your place is!”

It can have a major impact on your business, reputation, staff and of course to your customers and visitors.

Let’s say you have a new customer in a restaurant and he saw how filthy your toilet is. He might start wondering, “If their toilet is this dirty, how committed are they in cleaning their kitchen?”. According to Cleanlink, 86% of those surveyed equates bathroom cleanliness of a restaurant to its kitchen cleanliness. This increases the likelihood of this customer to not come back to your restaurant. Will this help your business’ bottom line? No.

Let us look at another scenario.

If you are searching for a place to eat, most of us do an internet search or go to those websites/apps of restaurant listings. These websites have all the details. Menus, opening hours, prices… and the reviews. All I am going to ask is: Will you try a restaurant with bad reviews?

Most of us will probably answer No.

Reputation is very important for a business. Word of mouth travels fast. People tend to tell their negative experiences more than positive experiences. In an era now run by technology and social media, these feedbacks tend to stick permanently for people to search online. So sure, you did not clean the toilet today and you did not hear any complaints about it from a customer. But beware, it might have been posted online already.

For some businesses, cleanliness goes hand in hand with health and safety too. For hospitals, proper cleaning and disinfecting are crucial to avoid the spread of infection. With restaurants, proper cleaning and sanitizing are important to avoid any food-borne illnesses. What happens when you neglected to mop a floor after a liquid spilled and then one of your staff or customer slipped on the floor? You’ll end up paying thousands for accident compensation. And again, your reputation will be at stake.

If you are a business owner or in charge of maintaining your facility, your objectives are to avoid these negative first impressions, give your business site a good reputation and maintain a healthy and safe work environment for your staff and customers.
